Hi
The site is looking better all the time. Thanks so much for the benefits information piece you've added. I was never told about Carers Allowance and wish this site had been up and running when Cai was younger.
Just another thought, Cai will be starting Nursery September and we're going to start going through lots of new processes and no doubt issues/problems etc. I know there seems to be a majority of parents to babies who use the site at moment, however an Education section could prove useful for everybody sooner or later.
What do you think? Thanks for listening.

William starts nursery in Sept also. He is being assesed for a statement at the moment, we will get results at the end of the month. We have also just got a blue badge which will be a great help in some places. He will be 3 in May. We get higher rate mobility from May, middle rate DLA and carers allowance.

Hi
Nice to see we're thinking alike on this then. I bet you're both like me and can't believe it's time already.
Cai is 3 at the end of next month. We're just put his renewal in for DLA and I'm not sure where he'll come out with regards to mobility. Have a blue badge application form but reluctant to put it in until we have the DLA result.
Although Cai is now walking, his strength, balance and co-ordination are definitely nowhere near the same as a child of his age should be. But will have to wait and see.

are we all off to nursery this year !!!!! charlie is going through statementing process too and waiting to hear about his mobility i cannot believe my little man is going to be going to nursery trinkle how long did you get your mobility allowance for and if you receive the higher rate does the care component automatically go down. we got a blue badge for charlie a couple of months ago because you can apply from 2 yrs as that is when they say a "normal " (sorry )child would be walking, i thought it was 3 but one of the parents at charlies special needs creche say different so we applied and we got one till 2010.

You may have to fight for a blue badge, it depends on your area, Oli was not aloud his until he was 5 as under 5 unless they are severely handicapped they are rated the same as any other child for instance an under 5 would not be able to cope with the road ect.. you then need higher rate mobility it is not based on DLA, for high rate mobility you need to say that they are unsafe, unaware of roads could run off, have no awareness of danger, not able to walk more that 100 yards ect. The worse you make it the more likely you are to get it. Good luck in trying you never know if you don't ask you dint get in this world. But never say anything positive when applying, it gets you nowhere. It can break your heart but you need to be so negative on these forms or they will say NO, I've been there and done it, 3 times so far. Each time I apply for a new badge it has to be explained again. Let us know how you get on.

Pinkshell, I won't receive the mobility payment until he is 3 in May but have had confirmation. I will get just over £80 which is from £43 and I think £45 each for middle rate DLA and higher rate mobility. As far as I am aware will still get carers allowance.
I had the Blue badge form for a while also, was waiting to hear from DLA to see if we would get mobility. When I got the letter from DLA sent it to Blue badge people and got the badge in about 3 days.

shell carers allowance is not assessed on salary, but you can only earn a certain amount per week or it will be taken off you. It's about £80 ish a month. It does go up each year with inflation. DLA is not counted at all that is yours to keep and they don't take it into account. Go for it, and mobility can be from 1 year to how many they want to give you, my first was for 1 year but this time it has been 2 years. My Friends is for 4 years. It just depends.

I have to say, I am completely confused about what Leo is entitled to...and me for that matter.
Why is no-one ever honest with you?

Pinkshell, i think Jo answered your question. not sure how long mine is for but you might as well apply, they will let you know if you are not entitled. You have to look after the person you are caring for for at least 25hrs a week (i think that many hours anyway).

Tace When William was Leo's age we got, DLA at middle rate and carers allowance. Also if you get Family tax credit you get more if you get DLA. He also had portage, speech therapy, physio, orthotic boots, regular eye and hearing tests (6mthly).

hi i rang them about carer's allowance, you have to be a carer for a minimum of 35 per week and have an income of less than £85 per week ,unfortunately i am not entitled to it as i earn more than that, never mind i just thought it would maybe allow me to reduce my hours so i could have more time at home with charlie, i think the income is only your income even if you have a partner that earns more it just goes on your income so if you dont work you should get it
tace we have been getting the higher rate of DLA since charlie was 3 months, he did have complex medical problems ,but you should almost certainly be able to get some DLA even if it is the lower rate, leo must need more care than a child without DS i would give it a go you have nothin to lose and i am sure if you needed any help filling in the forms we would all be here to help and advise you xxxxx
