Hi everyone!
I thought that this might be useful for those of you who are only new mum's to babies with DS.
Below you will find a list of the activities and toys that can help with baby's development.
Bilibo - Sit in and wobble, stand on it, pull it along or even wear it on your head! (Colours vary). Bilibo is full of surprises.
It gets your toddler to be imaginative, will it be a pool, sandpit or a hat today?
Young babies and children need to develop gross motor skills such as climbing, crawling, catching balls, skipping, cycling. Children who find these motor skills challenging need encouragement for sound toys that will give them practice in this area.
Makaton DVD with Dave Benson Phillips - there are a variety of DVD's and videos available for your little one, such a signs for nursery rhymes etc.
Xylophones can also be useful, try the Early Learning Centre - colours and noises help with co-ordination
- ELC Rainmaker - wow! the colours, the noise! This is good for everyone! Entertains me! LMAO!
Touch - try different material on a pillow, such as velvet, satin, cord, fur, or fill a pillowcase with peas or beanbag filling.
Clutch rattle from ELC - brightly coloured beads that rattle about inside for you to see. Different textures to touch.
Sight - how about a fibre optic lamp? all those different colours will have her amused for hours!
What about a drum, hand/eye co-ordination, mum and dad will have earplugs mind you!
Spinning Top - one with sounds and lights
OR!! Crisp packets, keys, a plastic drinks bottle with lentils?
I hope this has been useful.
xx
